SOLON — A Maine angler has caught a record-breaking rainbow trout.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says Anders Olafson of Starks caught a trout that weighed 8.42 pounds while fishing Oct. 31 on the Kennebec River in Solon.

Officials say the previous state record for a rainbow trout was 7 pounds.
