Meeting rescheduled
AUBURN — American Legion Post 31 has decided to hold its meeting to discuss upcoming events at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the post home on Washington Street. It had been announced as canceled.
The post kitchen has been in operation every Tuesday night in conjunction with the toy auction taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. until Christmas. Plans are under way for several new projects at Post 31.
Four new membership applications were turned in last month. This is the time of year American Legion posts throughout the country start their drive for new members.Any veteran, active or not, interested in the American Legion should attend the meeting.
Financial aid
LISBON FALLS — Lisbon High School Guidance Office will hold a Financial Aid Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, in the high school library for seniors and their parents.
The FAFSA form and the financial aid process will be discussed. A representative from the Finance Authority of Maine will make a presentation and answer questions.
DAR to meet
SABATTUS — Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will gather at the home of Jayne Bickford at noon Thursday, Dec. 9, for a Christmas potluck luncheon. The meeting, with the committee chairmen’s reports, will follow.
A gift exchange will be held after the meeting. The chapter will be recessed during January and February, resuming meetings on March 12.
Society Christmas
LISBON — The Lisbon Falls Historical Society will meet for its annual Christmas party and yankee swap on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the MTM Center. A social time will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by a meeting at 7. Members are encouraged to preregister by calling Secretary Dorothy Smith at 353-8510.
La Leche League
AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to the La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.
Discussion will focus on “ Breastfeeding: The Mother-Baby Relationship and the Weaning Process.” All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For breastfeeding help or directions to the meeting, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.
Grange program
AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet at the hall on Thursday, Dec. 9, for a 7 p.m. meeting. A Christmas program will be presented by the lecturer. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting.
Members are reminded to bring wrapped gifts for the Salvation Army and items for the State Junior Project for servicemen. All members and guests are welcome.
Pine Cone Chapter
AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday Dec. 9, at the Masonic Hall 1021 Turner St.
The chapter will celebrate Christmas and members will bring filled Christmas stockings for Officer Tom Poulin.Members will have a Christmas sing-a-long.
The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:15 p.m. All Eastern Star members are welcome.
Church concert
AUBURN — Kathy Haley and Phil House will present a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Danville Union Church. A free will offering will be taken.
Preceding the concert, at 5:30 p.m., a potluck dinner will be served in the vestry. The public is invited. Bring a dish for the supper.
Travelers to meet
MECHANIC FALLS — Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Bucknam Oaks . A ham dinner will be served following the business meeting.
Members are reminded to bring a wrapped gift, marked for a man or woman, for the gift exchange.
Teddy Bear Dance
PARIS — The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will host its annual Teddy Bear Dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Oxford hills Middle School, 100 Pine St., South Paris.
The dance supports Right Start For Kids, a program of Community Concepts in the Oxford Hills area. Donations of stuffed toys are requested. Dancers and nondancers are welcome.
Ray Hilton will be the caller, giving easy calls for those who began lessons in September and more advanced calls for more experienced dancers.
A new class for beginners will begin Jan. 5 with Al Hipkins, club caller. Round dancing will be intermingled with the square dancing. Carol Stewart will cue the rounds.
There will be refreshments at intermission, pot of gold drawing and door prizes. Admission for dancers is $6 a person; free for nondancers.
YWCA holiday fair
LEWISTON — A holiday fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the YWCA at 130 East Ave. There will be a selection of gift items, holiday decor, jewelry, children’s items and novelties. Santa will visit from 8 to 10 a.m. A 50/50 raffle will be held and a holiday gift basket by Charlene LeClair will be raffled.
Service music
AUBURN — A brass quintet with past and present members of the Mid Coast Symphony will perform at the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Sixth Street Congregational Church, 109 Sixth St.
Cribbage winners
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 2 were: first: Sandy Oliver and Sandy Verrill; second: Anna Faucher and Roger Labbe; third: Guy Dube and Arnie Burgess; fourth: Gerry Therrien, 2 Player Table; fifth: Linda Dostie Scott and Norm Bissonnette.
