PERU — Following a one-hour work session, selectmen held their regular meeting Monday night. Selectman Chairman Laurieann Milligan signed the contract for the TRIO software system approved by the residents in a recent special town meeting.

This system will replace an outdated system for handling the town tax and other records. Town Clerk Vera Parent indicated that many nearby towns have been successfully using TRIO for 10 years or more.

The selectmen had questions after reviewing the contract at last week’s meeting. Parent obtained answers for the selectmen, and they unanimously approved the contract.

Planning Board member Anne Stickney expressed the opinion that the anticipated maintenance fees were in line with those paid by commercial companies and the schools for proprietary software such as TRIO.

Animal control officer candidate Sue Milligan had high praise for TRIO, which is used by some of the towns for which she is ACO.

Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley inspected property belonging to George Breau on Green Woods Road. The selectmen had delayed issuing a building permit for a seasonal home on the property until it was verified that previous orders to plant trees had been obeyed.

Plumley recommended issuing the permit stipulating that the town was not liable for the proposed driveway being outside the deeded right of way. The selectmen followed Plumley’s recommendation.

The selectmen went into executive session to interview Sue Milligan for the ACO position recently vacated by Dan Carrier. Carrier recommended Milligan, who is no relation to Selectman Chairman Milligan. Milligan is currently ACO for Rumford, Bethel, Andover and Roxbury.
