100 years ago,1910

The windows of the Carrigan-Conway Smoke Shop on Ash Street attracted much attention yesterday as “Bill” has secured the photographs of all his team mates on the Red Sox, and they are displayed attractively. Local people, of course, on account of Carrigan having been on the team have been greatly interested in the Boston Americans and they also show that they are interested in seeing the pictures of the men they have read so much about.

50 years ago, 1960

A 3-year-old Lewiston boy who wandered away from his Knox Street home spent a couple of hours at the Lewiston police station yesterday afternoon and didn’t seem to mind it a bit.

Police took him for a ride in a cruiser car to see if he could spot his home, but the trip drew a blank.

He was a most agreeable youngster for when officers asked him if his name was Bobby, Billy, Dickie and so on  he nodded “yes” to all of the names suggested.

25 years ago, 1985

A modest job picture is foreseen by Lewiston area employers for the first quarter of 1986, according to a survey released today by Manpower Inc., the world’s largest temporary help service.

The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey reports that 13 percent of local employers surveyed plan to increase staff during January, February and March; 7 percent foresee staff cuts; and 77 percent anticipate no change in present staffing levels. The remaining 3 percent are uncertain of first quarter hiring plans.
