Coach: Heidi Deery (17th year)
Last year’s record: 14-7, lost in Western D final
Returning letter winners: Seniors — Sierra Machacos (5-6 guard) Allie Hammond (5-6 guard); Junior — Chantal Carrier (5-10 forward/center), Emily Carrier (5-11 guard/forward), Lexi Letarte (5-9 forward/center), Rebecca Walton (5-4 guard); Sophomores — Abby Abbott (5-9 guard/forward), Jenney Abbott (5-10 forward/center)); Freshman – Tori Letarte (5-7 guard)
Promising newcomers: Eighth grade — Taylor Esty (5-10 guard/forward), Seve C. Deery-DeRaps (5-8 guard).
Key Losses: Alanna Lauter (guard), Olivia Decelles (guard), Sandra Campbell (guard)
Outlook:
The Lakers didn’t graduate anyone from last year’s team that reached the regional final, but Rangeley lost four guards to either injury or relocation. One of those lost included Hammond, an all-conference guard and the team’s top scorer. She’s out for the year with a knee injury. The Lakers have ample size in the post and will need the guards to adjust to larger roles. Losing Hammond is a blow, but this club started the year 0-4 last year and bounced back to reach the regional final. There’s still enough talent, experience and resiliency for Rangeley to be a factor in Western D.
Coach’s comment:
“With a full summer schedule, these players will be able to contribute as the season progresses.” Coach Heidi Deery.
