FARMINGTON — A justice set a local man’s bail at $2,500 cash on Friday and banned him from the University of Maine at Farmington campus.

UMF police Chief Ted Blais arrested Ryan Brann, 32, of Farmington on Wednesday on charges of felony burglary and theft in relation to lockers being broken into at the university’s Fitness and Recreation Center on Sunday and Monday.

Brann is accused of stealing items, including wallets and cash from locked and unlocked lockers at the center. Brann and his girlfriend, April Auger, 33, also of Farmington, were seen on security video entering and leaving the center at various times, Blais said Thursday. Auger was arrested on a probation violation

A search of their apartment on Oak Street turned up evidence of the thefts, Blais had said.

Franklin County Assistant District Attorney Andrew Robinson asked Justice Michaela Murphy on Friday to set bail at $5,000, down from $10,000 cash initially set, and forbid him from returning to UMF.

Robinson listed a lengthy criminal history that included several thefts over several years with the last conviction in October.

Defense attorney Linda Sparks said Brann lives in Farmington and currently lives with his father. He has a job at Atlantic Scaffolding and unless he appears there Saturday, he will lose his job, Sparks said. He also is not receiving his medications in jail, she said.

Sparks said he also needs to get out of jail to take care of his father who has heart problems and is scheduled for surgery next week.

She said Brann does not have any cash for bail. She asked if there could be a pretrial service agreement.

Brann said he needed to get out to take care of his father.

Justice Murphy said due to Brann’s criminal history, bail would be set at $2,500 cash with conditions of not returning to university campus, and no possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs. He is also subject to random testing without probable cause.
