RUMFORD — Black Mountain of Maine Ski Resort opened for the season at 9 a.m. Monday.

It was a day later than usual, but Sunday night’s storm brought plenty of snow to open the Moose Run alpine trail in the morning and the novice trail later in the afternoon. Cross-country tails are also open.

Black Mountain spokeswoman Natalie Aylward said snow tubing should be ready sometime next week.

About two dozen skiers turned out Monday morning for the mountain’s first day, she said.

During this week of school vacation the ski area will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sunday. Night hours will likely begin later in the season.

The small resort remains open through mid-March.
