TURNER — The performing arts department at Leavitt Area High School will present Meredith Wilson’s popular musical, “The Music Man,” on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8.

Set in River City, Iowa, in 1912, the story is about a traveling salesman, Harold Hill (played by Jesse Juntura), who poses as a boys’ band organizer and leader, and sells band instruments and uniforms to naive townsfolk before skipping town with the cash.

The town’s librarian, Marian Paroo (Aimee Giffune), sees through him, but when Hill helps her younger brother, Winthrop (Eli Christman), Marian begins to fall in love with him. Hill, who falls for Marian, risks being caught in order to win her love.

The production features many favorite songs such as “Goodnight My Someone,” “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Wells Fargo Wagon,” “Lida Rose” and “Gary Indiana.”

Penny Appleby is directing the show with Steve Barter as musical director, William Buzza as producer and Melissa Dufault as choreographer.

“The Music Man” will be staged at 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 and at 2 p.m. on Jan. 8 in the school’s auditorium.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens. They will be sold at the door.

On Friday Leavitt’s junior class will serve a pasta supper before the show, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Cost for the full meal is $6.50 at the door or $6 in advance from any member of the class of 2012.
