GREENWOOD — Norman and Jean Millett of Greenwood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 16 at the American Legion Hall in Norway. The event was hosted by family and friends, Rick and Marcia Cummings, Maureen Heath, Brenda Lacroix, Sherri Millett and Steve Millett.

The hall was decorated in gold and cream colors with yellow roses. The 50th anniversary cake was made by Maureen Heath, with the same cake top which was used at their wedding 50 years ago. Brenda Lacroix and granddaughter, Meghan, provided a computerized picture show of the Millett life. Toastmaster and DJ was Rick Cummings Jr., and the guest book was signed by more than 100 guests.The buffet was provided by Al and Roberta White.

The couple received letters of congratulations from President Barack Obama, Gov. John Baldacci, Sen. Olympia Snowe and Reps. Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud.

On the date of their anniversary, Oct. 15, the Millett family enjoyed a dinner at Market Square Restaurant and celebrated their anniversary on Oct. 16 with family friends at the American Legion Hall.

Mr. Millett and the former Jean Coffin were married on Oct. 16, 1960, in Norway by the Rev. Robert Sallies. Their children are Maureen Heath, Sherri Millett, Brenda Lacroix and Steve Millett. Their grandchildren are Jeremy and Amanda Heath, Jason Millett, Josh and Meghan Lacroix and Jordan Millett. The couple is also great-grandparents to twins born this fall to Amanda, who has one other child.

Mrs. Millett is a graduate of West Paris High School and received a degree in nursing from the University of Maine at Augusta. She is currently at the Maine Veterans Home and SAD 17 adult education in the CNA program, per diem.

Mr. Millett is also a graduate of West Paris High School and prior to his retirement was self-employed. He is past road commissioner and selectman of Greenwood. Both enjoy camping and their camp at a pond.
