OXFORD — Boxberry Elementary School students had their first ski of the season on Jan. 14 at Carter’s X-C Ski Center.

Ski instructor, Jessica Person, taught the students some basics of cross country skiing. Students learned how to pick up the tips of their skis to turn, snowplow, herringbone to get up hills, fall down and get up correctly and balance and glide on their skis.

Boxberry students and parent volunteers glided off into the woods without poles in order to gain a better sense of balance and proper technique.

Boxberry will continue the program every Friday throughout January and February. At 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, there will be a winter carnival for the students and local kids who would like to join in the festivities.

Winter carnival games at Carter’s will include scavenger hunts, relay races, prizes and an obstacle course with a small jump.
