Larry “Crash” Buteau of Sabattus awards Bailey Nassa, 12, of Raymond the first-place medal for the dessert competition during the second annual United Bikers of Maine Androscoggin County Chili and Chowder Festival at Central Maine Power Sports in Lewiston on Saturday. The event featured about 10 varieties of chowder and chili, including one chili called “Backdraft.” It was made by Michael Laroche and Ryan Allen, members of the Firefighters Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club. “Oh, my god, it’s crazy hot,” said Ken Blais, a judge and the owner of Rolly’s Diner in Auburn. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Advocates for Children to prevent child abuse, Buteau said.
