LEWISTON — Gerard F. “Jerry” Coughlin, 87, who lately lived in Lewiston, with his daughter, Christina Geary and her husband, John, passed peacefully Monday, Feb. 14, of complications from Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) with family members and friends by his side.

Jerry, formerly of South Braintree and Halifax, Mass., was born in Boston, Aug. 4, 1923, the only son of John and Nora (Costello) Coughlin. He was a 1940 graduate of Commerce High School in Boston and a World War II veteran, having proudly served his country overseas in the U.S. Navy.

Jerry was a civil war buff and avid reader, who also enjoyed photography and fishing. He was also a die-hard Red Sox and Patriots fan.

He is survived by his two daughters, Christina Geary of Lewiston and Suzanne Meserve of Unity; three granddaughters, Michelle Meserve of Benton, Catherine Lindblad and her husband, Greg, of Plaistow, N.H., and Jacqueline Richard and her husband, Titus, of Temecula, Calif.; a great-granddaughter; four great-grandsons; and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents; and three sisters, Marion Zinck, Catherine Vierkant and Eileen Carroll.
