LEWISTON — United Way of Androscoggin County, together with community partners in the Young Child Taskforce, is celebrating the Week of the Young Child Sunday through Saturday, April 10 to 16, with a Touch-a-Truck event from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, April 10, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, 190 Birch St.
Larry Marcoux, director of community impact at United Way, stressed the organization’s commitment to improving educational opportunities in Androscoggin County.
He said, “Early childhood education is vital to our community. Children need a strong early learning foundation to succeed in school and go on to succeed in life. Opportunities like the Touch-a-Truck event help open a child’s imagination and capacity for learning.”
Touch-a-Truck is a community-wide event where kids and the young at heart have the opportunity to see, touch, interact and learn about dozens of vehicles, from fire trucks to cement trucks, police cars to the Channel 8 news van, garbage trucks to rescue vehicles of all types. There will also be a children’s book swap and children’s activity tables.
The free event will be held rain or shine.
