Marge and Don

Ham

MONMOUTH — Don and Marge Ham, residents of Monmouth, are enjoying time at their home overlooking Lake Cochnewagan, maybe even taking bets on when the ice will go out. Their family and friends are pleased to announce the 73rd anniversary of this couple on March 28.

Both are life-long residents and supporters of Monmouth. They have both been an integral part of the community as Mr. Ham’s career entailed working for the local telephone company, LG&M, as well as owning and operating his own electrical business, Don’s Electric for 30 years. In addition to his business, through the years, he has been actively involved in the local fire department, Lion’s Club, Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Water District.

Mrs. Ham, who is honored on the Monmouth Academy Wall of Fame, has been equally active having been both a switchboard operator in town as well as a teacher at the Henry Cottrell School for 21 years. Always a concerned citizen of her community, she donated the land on which the Monmouth Medical Center was built. Additionally, she has been an active volunteer for local bake sales, the apple fest and the community church, as well as the thrift shop. Both are thankful for the many wonderful and dedicated folks in Monmouth.

Their two children grew up in Monmouth and developed the same humanitarian ways, choosing careers in social services — counseling and teaching. Their three grandchildren have followed the family tradition of service to others, obtaining degrees in social work, communications and law. Their great-granddaughter attends St. Michael’s School in Augusta and their great-grandson attends Mission Bay High School in San Diego, Calif.
