AUBURN — Mr. and Mrs. Leighton H. Cooney Jr. of Auburn are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Eliza deSannois Cooney of New York City, to Joel Elisha Papo of Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Papo of Indianapolis, Ind.

Mss Cooney is a 1993 graduate of Edward Little High School and a 1998 graduate of Pomona College. She works as an assistant vice president at Citigroup Inc. in New York City. She plans to enroll in graduate studies at Columbia University in the fall.

The couple met as volunteers for the Nature Conservancy, where they both serve on the board of the New York Young Professional’s Group.

Mr. Papo is a 1993 graduate of Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, Calif., a 1998 graduate of Claremont McKenna College and a 2006 graduate of Columbia Business School. He is a senior associate with K. Backus and Associates Inc. in New York City.

The wedding will be held June 11 in Auburn.
