NORWAY — Christ Episcopal Church offers several services during Holy Week and Easter.

On Maundy Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m., Jesus’ Last Supper and footwashing are observed. Holy Eucharist is celebrated followed by the removal of all decorations, done solemnly in the darkened church.

On Good Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m., we gather for special prayers and to hear the Passion from St. John’s Gospel. Eucharist is not celebrated on this day, but Communion is given from the previously consecrated bread and wine.

On Saturday, April 23, the Great Vigil, first service of Easter, begins at 7:30 p.m. with the lighting of the New Fire outdoors, weather permitting. The service continues by candlelight inside with the singing of the ancient chant, the Exsultet, and hearing the sacred stories of scripture, beginning with the Creation. Easter breaks forth, at that point, with lights and bells and Holy Eucharist. Refreshments to follow.

Easter continues on Easter morning, April 24, with two services of Holy Eucharist, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., with hymns and choir and refreshments to follow.

Everyone is invited. Phone 743-6782 for more information. Christ Church is located at 35 Paris St., at the corner of Green Street.
