RUMFORD — Dora D. Wagnis, 95, of Spruce Street, Rumford, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Rumford Hospital.

She was born in Rumford on March 10, 1916, a daughter of Charles and Dora (Stangvila) Drakus, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1934.

Dora worked as a dental assistant for Dr. George Dyer in Rumford for several years and then during WWII she worked at Thorn Bleach Laboratory at Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford.

Dora was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church. She especially enjoyed working in her garden. She was married in Rumford on May 18, 1935, to Anthony P. “Hornet” Wagnis, who died in Rumford on Nov. 24, 1991.

Survivors include her daughter, Frances Patricia Wagnis and friend, Lynn Belensky, of Delray Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; sisters, Violet and Sophie Drakus; and brother, Walter Drakus.
