AUBURN — Students in the Trades Career Cluster at Lewiston Regional Technical Center recently built a bookcase for residents at The Chapman House assisted living facility.

Carmen Mercier, a resident of the house, saw a need for shelves to hold the growing collection of books so she contacted her friend Willie Danforth, commander of the Franco-American War Veterans Post 31 in Lewiston. He, in turn, contacted tech center staff members Thomas Fylstra, Dan O’Neill and Mark Yerxa.

Teachers and students visited the facility at 41 Pleasant St. took measurements and followed up with a plan and an estimate. After getting approval, they constructed a set of bookcases consisting of five units with adjustable shelves and raised panels on the ends of each set. The project was completed and installed on March 17.

The residents were grateful for the service and students for the learning experience.
