AUGUSTA — The Maine House of Representatives has passed LD 1333, the controversial health insurance reform bill, on a second read in chambers Tuesday morning.

The bill passed by the House is the 39-page amended version approved on the floor last week and will permit insurance companies to modify rates for individual and small group health plans by Jan. 1, 2014, among other things.

The law is modeled after health insurance regulations in place in Idaho since 2000 and has received widespread support among Republicans.
