DIXFIELD — This will be a new chapter and challenge for Chris Moreau, who was recently named the new assistant principal and athletic director at Dirigo High School.

The 38-year old is certainly familiar with the territory He served as a dual role as assistant principal/co-curricular director at Lisbon and is equally versed on the Mountain Valley Conference. Moreau will replace Charlie Swan who has been named the new principal at Dirigo Elementary.  

“The committee and board were very impressed with his experience as an Administrator,” said Dr. Tom Ward, who is Superintendent of Schools Western Foothills RSU #10. “He is very high energy and enthusiastic. He is the vice president of the MVC.”  

”My wife and I chose to come home to the MVC after traveling around the state to get my experience,” said Moreau. who has been an AD at Sumner, Dexter and Scarborough. “The MVC is where I grew up, and it is where I want my kids to grow up as well.  It has been a dream come true, and this position at Dirigo is a blessing for me and my family. We count ourselves very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to work there.”

Moreau graduated from Jay in 1990 and four years later from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in education. He also earned an administrative certification through the University of Southern Maine.

Moreau considers himself fortunate to have been allowed the opportunity to serve as the conference’s VP. Moreau replaced long-time friend and mentor Jeff Ramich at Lisbon, who has provided a wealth of knowledge.

“This school is widely considered one of the great Class C schools in the state,” said Moreau, who developed a fondness since student teaching at Dirigo. “Their athletic programs are always competitive – and the challenge of enhancing their already successful programs is truly exciting. The students, staff, and administration are first class. I am very excited about this professional opportunity and very thankful to the folks in RSU#10 and Dirigo High School for welcoming me and my family to the family.”

Moreau has formed his own philosophies on both positions and feels well qualified in being able to join the team.

”I believe whole heartedly that I am a student-first administrator,”Moreau said. “Teens are unique in many ways, therefore you have to treat each individually. It is tricky to do the dual role in small schools — you need to be the biggest cheerleader in the school while also being the school disciplinarian — not an easy task to say the least — but it is a challenge I freely accept and am excited to be part of at Dirigo.”

Moreau and his family reside in Jay and this new position would be a shorter commute for him.

”No question this is a shorter commute,” Moreau said. “It allows me to be dad and husband a little more.  I am truly blessed with an amazing wife (Michelle) and children (Chantel 19, Trevin 17 , Casandra 17, Skylar 8 and Colby 6)  Colby will be daddy’s AD’s helper – and is very excited to come with daddy and help the Cougars.”
