Auburn police officer Berni Mowatt and Seth Hicks, 8, navigate an obstacle course during the Auburn Police Department Bike Rodeo at Washburn Elementary School in Auburn on Saturday. As a part of the school’s Family Fun Day, the APD, the Lewiston-Auburn Optimist Club and Rainbow Bicycle hosted eight checkpoints for children to learn bicycle fundamentals such as safety, hand signals and maintenance. The Optimist Club gave away more than 40 kids’ bicycles that they have collected from various donors over the past year. Hicks is a second-grader at Washburn. Sgt. Barry Schmieks is in the background.
