RUMFORD — River Valley firefighters underwent an intensive two-day training program this past weekend.

Most of the training, including vehicle extrication water rescue and structure fires, was conducted in Bethel, according to Chief Bob Chase of the Rumford Fire Department.

“We were fortunate to have a trainer from the Chicago Fire Department,” Chase said, “who is skilled with handling large-scale fires.”

Firefighters from Andover, Bethel, Peru, Rumford and Sumner fire departments gathered for a full-scale live house structure fire training exercise at 26 Waldo St. on Sunday.

The fire department trainers simulated a second-floor fire with a missing occupant at the town-owned, wooden, three-story home.

“We love to have structures like this for the firefighters,” Chase said. “It provides invaluable training.”
