BANGOR, Maine (AP) — The arrival of a plane with 267 military personnel added to a weekend celebration honoring the Maine Troop Greeters and the military on Armed Forces Day.

The soldiers arrived Saturday at the Bangor International Airport to the 195th Army Band and a gathering of 200 people including U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud and Maj. Gen. John W. Libby, adjutant general of the Maine National Guard.

The greeters are known for being at the airport at all hours to greet military transport aircraft stopping to meet customs obligations, refuel and change crews for continuing flights.

En route to Afghanistan, Staff Sgt. Daniel Garnett told the Bangor Daily News that it’s nice to see people showing appreciation. It was his third time to stop in Bangor.
