100 years ago, 1911

Four of the Lewiston police force, Jolicoeur, Nelligan, Picard and D. Crowley, took part in raids this morning. At the house of Alice Wiseman, Cleophas Pivin and Mrs. Mary Jutras were arrested and will be arraigned on the charge of disturbance.

Nearby at No. 3 Continental Block, Joseph Bernard was found in a room with Mrs. Josephine Roy. The latter couple is charged with fornication.

All four were taken to the station in the patrol and locked up. Their cases will be heard in Lewiston Municipal Court this morning.

50 years ago, 1961

Workmen started installing a teletype machine at Lewiston police headquarters yesterday.

With the machine the LPD will be hooked up for instantaneous teletype communication with a 14-state police network. The unit is being set up in the dispatcher’s office.

25 years ago, 1986

For a third year, a baseball pitching camp is planned at Lewiston’s Elliot Little League complex on June 22-23-24 for boys ages 8-20, coordinated by Jim Fennessey of Lewiston. Camp director is Dr. John Bagonzi, former AAA pitcher in the Red Sox organization.

Cost of two days is $40, three days $55. Boys need to bring glove, spikes, socks, shirt, pants, shorts, jacket and towel.

The program contains studies of pitching mechanics, fielding, pick-offs and techniques of setting up batters. The camp will use a radar gun, pitching machine and video tape, and will issue report cards.
