WASHINGTON PLANTATION — A resident discovered what are believed to be two human skulls and some bones on his property Tuesday and Wednesday nights, police said Friday.
The skulls were found on the side of an embankment beside an old road, Franklin County Sheriff Lt. Niles Yeaton said.
Police suspect there was a farm in the area with a family burial ground on it, he said. There are old cellar holes in the area.
Heavy rain may have washed away some of the soil and exposed the remains, Yeaton said.
Deputy Christopher Chase contacted the state Medical Examiner’s Office and advised it of the skulls.
Yeaton said he took them to the state Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday for further examination.
