LEWISTON — Indie rock/roots trio The Toughcats and Balkan duo Cinder Conk will play a double bill at She Doesn’t Like Guthries on Thursday, July 7.

Headlining will be The Toughcats with their unusual blend of old-time bluegrass, thoughtful indie rock and classic pop twitches a la early Beatles. Throughout their extensive travels, The Toughcats have shared the stage with the likes of Old Crow Medicine Show, Tony Trischka and Steep Canyon Rangers.

Balkan music is the vibrant, colorful sound of Roma (gypsy) folk dance, Yiddish and Eastern European culture, known for its haunting allure. Cinder Conk, aka Matt Schreiber on accordion and Xar on contrabass, mixes frenzied accordion riffs, sometimes adding violin, and warm double bass counterpoint with a classic bardic lyricism.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. There is no cover, however, contributions are encouraged and will go directly to the artists. Guthries is at 115 Middle St., Lewiston. For more information, call 376-3344.
