LEWISTON — According to State Police, the badly decomposing body of a woman found dead in Lewiston Tuesday has been identified as Danita Brown, 38, of New Gloucester.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has not released her cause of death.

According to Brown’s Facebook page, she has two children, both under the age of 5 years.

Police were holding a 20-year-old man in connection Brown’s death. Her body was removed Tuesday  by the Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner from a first-floor apartment at 417 Main St.

Bob W. Ryder, 20, formerly of Litchfield, was arrested at about 3 a.m. Tuesday and held on a probation violation at Androscoggin County Jail. No bail was allowed.

According to Tuesday’s Lewiston Police Department call log, someone came into the lobby of the station just before 10 p.m. Monday and reported a woman was dead in the Main Street apartment.

An autopsy was completed Wednesday but police were not yet releasing the cause of Brown’s death, according to a brief press release issued Wednesday afternoon by Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
