BRUNSWICK — MSGA B & C Championship: Mark Boivin had his first sub-par round in more than a decade Thursday, and his timing couldn’t have been better. Boivin, who plays out of Lakewood, paired his first round total of 83 with a second round of one-under 71 to vault him to the top of the leaderboard in the B and C Players Championship.
Boivin held the lead for much of the afternoon until Scott Jones from Nonesuch River came in with a 76 to tie his two-day total of 154. The two players headed to the first hole for a playoff and both parred.
The playoff then moved to the beautiful and challenging ninth hole at Brunswick. Jones found the hazard off the tee and had to chip out, leading to a bogey. When Boivin made another par he took home the crystal in the B Players division.
In the C Players division, Brunswick home clubber John Lincoln held onto his first round lead, pairing a 79 with a 77 for the victory at 156. Finishing two behind at 158 was Jim Horn of Springbrook, who shot a career round 74 in his second round, bettering his first day score by 10. Horn’s previous best score ever was a 77.
