MEXICO — The Fire Department is seeking help from River Valley residents in its on-going fundraiser to purchase a 6-wheel, four-wheel-drive all terrain vehicle.

There is a public safety need to have this ATV, Ed Carey, captain of the Mexico Fire Department, said.

“We are responsible for emergency response and rescue on over 100 miles of local ATV/ snowmobile trails,” Carey said. “Andover has one, but the area really needs another in case of multiple injuries and for better emergency response.”

“The cost of the 6-wheel ATV is $10,000,” Carey said. “We don’t have many public fundraising efforts,” he said. ” I believe our last one was about 15 years ago when we raised money for a thermal imaging camera.”

The MFD has several fundraising events under way, including a bottle drive at the fire station, located at 118 Main St., periodic benefit car washes, toll road/bridge donations, a fireman’s boot donation site at the Pizza Hut in Mexico and a Pizza Hut Gift Card ($40 value) for sale for $10, Carey said.

One may, also, donate to the Mexico Fire Department ATV Fund by sending a check or money order to the Mexico Firefighter Relief Fund c/o The Mexico Fire Department, 118 Main St., Mexico, ME 04257.
