PARIS — Grammy-nominated electric harpist Deborah Henson-Conant, who plays a 32-string, 11-pound electric harp that she slings on like an electric guitar, will perform on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Celebration Barn Theater.

Henson-Conant sings, plays and tells stories in a nouvelle cabaret-style show that combines music influences from flamenco to blues.

Described as “Jimi Hendrix of the harp” by guitar legend Steve Vai, she has toured internationally, debuted with the Boston Pops, opened for Ray Charles, and jammed on-stage with Bobby McFerrin and off-stage with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler.

She has starred in her own PBS special, “Invention & Alchemy,” with music that won her a Grammy nomination; and has been featured on CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” NBC’s “Today Show” and NPR’s “Weekend Edition.”

Henson-Conant collaborated with Europe’s top harp builder, CAMAC harps, to develop an instrument called the “DHC Blue-Light,” named after her. It is the first commercially produced carbon-fiber harp. Lady GaGa’s tour harpist uses one.

The performance will be at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and students. Call 743-8452. Celebration Barn Theater is at 190 Stock Farm Road. For more information, www.CelebrationBarn.com or www.HipHarp.com.
