Cruiz Nites

AUBURN — The final Cruiz Nites held by the United New Auburn Association will take place, weather permitting, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 26, Sept. 2 and Sept. 9 at Rolly’s Diner parking lot on Mill Street in New Auburn.

Cars and trucks from 1900 to the present day will be on display. There will music from the 50s, 60s and early 70s along with door prizes. Food and soft beverages will be available.

A special Kids Nite/Cruiz Nite will be held Sept. 9. A pig roast will be included with a $5 donation per plate. The proceeds will go to the Christmas Festival.

AUBURN — A spaghetti dinner to benefit Phil Mitchell Sr. will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Danville Grange Hall. Donations accepted and greatly appreciated.

Farmers’ Market

WAYNE — Town of Wayne Farmers’ Market will host the Labor Day weekend celebration from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Town Green on the Mill Pond, Main Street. Musicians Chris Cushman and Friends will perform.

The Wayne Farmers’ Market features vendors selling Maine vegetables, baked goods, milk, cheese, yogurt, meat, wool, goat’s milk soap, eggs, herbs, perennials and flowers. The market will be open Saturdays until the end of September.

NEW GLOUCESTER — Filled with a diverse selection of local products, the New Gloucester Community Market will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 4, at Thompson’s Orchard, 276 Gloucester Hill Road. Music, a barbecue and raffle will add to the festivities on opening day.

There will be products such as vegetables, bread, jams and preserves, eggs and dairy, meat, plants, berries, herbs, soaps, alpaca yarn and wears, and more. The market will be held Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and is slated to run through the end of October. Mystery author

BRUNSWICK — Curtis Friends and Sisters in Crime have announced the authors and dates for the fall Mystery Author Series at Curtis Memorial Library. The series begins on Tuesday, Sept. 6, with Susan Oleksiw, the author of the Mellingham mystery series and another series set in India.

The second mystery author will be Susan Fleet, appearing on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Fleet will talk about how she went from being a professional trumpeter to writing suspense thrillers set in New Orleans.

Next in the series is Lea Wait on Oct. 4, who is known for her Shadows Antique Print Mysteries starring Maggie Summer.

The series will conclude on Tuesday, Oct. 18, with Vicki Doudera. Doudera is a Maine realtor who has written mysteries featuring realtor Darby Farr of the Near & Farr Real Estate Agency.

All events will be held at 7 p.m. in the Morrell Meeting Room at the library. Free refreshments will be provided by the Bohemian Coffee House, and Gulf of Maine will have copies of the authors’ books for sale. CODA Chorus

WINTHROP — The CODA Chorus will begin rehearsals for the fall season in preparation for the annual Christmas Concert. Rehearsals begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Winthrop United Methodist Church. Please come at 6:30 that first evening to pick up music and visit with fellow singers.

CODA members are excited to welcome new singers to the group, and are especially looking to add voices to the tenor and bass sections. CODA is under the direction of Ed Larson.

Andro Irish

AUBURN — Local historian and author John Henderson will visit the Auburn Public Library at noon Thursday, Sept. 8, to discuss “The Androscoggin Irish: Origins and Beginnings.” This free presentation will address topics such as what brought Irish immigrants to Lewiston-Auburn, how they made their way here and what challenges they faced upon arrival.

Using examples from art and architecture to illuminate the nature of the Irish journey, Henderson will talk about the Irish impact on Lewiston and Auburn. This is the first of five related programs Henderson will present on the Androscoggin Irish at various venues in Lewiston-Auburn in the upcoming weeks. Copies of Henderson’s new book, “Androscoggin Irish,” will be available for signing and purchase.

CNA course

TURNER — SAD 52 Adult and Community Education will hold a CNA class starting Oct. 11. The 180-hour certified nursing assistant course is designed to provide the skills and experience to be Maine State Certified. Candidates must be dedicated, hard working, reliable and compassionate with an interest in a health care career.
