LEWISTON – Members of the Lewiston Auburn Rotary District 7790 presented seven $1000 scholarship awards during the club’s Annual Awards Banquet held at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston on May 11.

“Every year, the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club raises thousands of dollars to donate to graduating high school seniors and worthy community organizations,” said William Denehy, Vocational Service Committee Chair. “To raise these funds, we carry out several fundraising activities including an annual auction, the Balloon Festival, selling poinsettias, Christmas trees and more. Thanks to our fundraising efforts, we are proud this year to give back over $10,000 to very deserving students and community organizations.”

Class of 2011 graduating seniors receiving the $1000 scholarships were Hannah Martin, Edward Little High School; Karli Taylor Soracco, Leavitt Area High School; Brittany Martin, Lewiston High School; Meghan Craig, Lisbon High School; Brittney Marshall, Oak Hill High School; Harley Kerr, Poland Regional High School; and Hannah Sterling, St. Dominic Academy.

Community donations recipients were introduced by LA Rotary Club President, Jennifer Hogan. Five civic organizations were awarded donations and recognized for their service to the community: Maine Autism Society, $1,000; Franco American Heritage Center, $1,000; Museum LA, $500; Trinity Jubilee Center, $500; and Book Reach Program, $500.
