WEST PARIS — Fire destroyed the kitchen of Katie’s Kitchen restaurant on Route 26 here Sunday afternoon. The cook, Ernie Batchelder, was the only one on the premises and he was not injured, according to Fire Chief Phil Edmunds.
Edmunds said oil in the Fryolater ignited and Batchelder extinguished it several times, but was forced out of the building by smoke. The flames erupted again and consumed the kitchen before firemen arrived about 4 p.m., he said.
