FARMINGTON — The Planning Board will review an application for a snack shack by Prescott Fields when they meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Farmington Municipal Building.

John Moore has submitted the application to build a 648-square-foot structure overlooking the University of Maine at Farmington’s new soccer field, he said Friday.

The project is a joint venture between Moore, owner of Narrow Gauge Cinema, and the University of Maine at Farmington. Both will have use of the structure.

“It’s a work in progress and is subject to Planning Board approval,” Moore said.

The proposed design looks like a railroad station, one he might call, The Whistle Stop at Prescott Field. It is on the banking next to the former train bed trail leading to the Sandy River and is behind the optometrist and chiropractor’s offices next to the cinema.

The building will house the snack shack, two bathrooms and a basement that is accessible from the banking, he said.  UMF plans to use the space for storage of sports equipment.

Moore is working with Ben Pratt, director of Facilities Management at UMF. Attempts to reach Pratt on Friday were unsuccessful.

Along with hot dogs, beverages, desserts and other concession type items, Moore plans to offer roasted cinnamon-glazed nuts, he said. According to The Nutty Bavarian website, almonds, pecans and cashews are glazed on site. Moore said hopes to process the nuts at the site to offer at his movie theater in Skowhegan also.

The snack shack will not be ready for this fall’s sporting events but he’s looking toward spring, pending the board’s approval, he said.

Whether it will open at times other than during games on the fields is under consideration.

“We’ll see what the demand is,” he added.
