RUMFORD — Jill Howard notched a late goal on an indirect kick from within six-yards to assist Mt. Abram in a 3-1 victory over Mountain Valley in MVC girls’ soccer action Friday.

Kirsten Rich provided the Falcons (0-3) with their only goal in the first half.

Goalie Kaitlin Armstrong made 13 saves for Mountain Valley, while Taylor Henderson prevented 11 to earn the win in net for Mt. Abram.

Oak Hill 0, Winslow 0

WALES — Oak Hills’ Amanda Bloss’s penalty kick could have decided the game, but Winslow goalie Elizabeth Ferry (14 saves) made a diving save to the left of the net as the two teams played through double overtime to a 0-0 tie in a girls’ soccer game Friday.

In the second half, a yellow card was called on Alliyah Veilleux for encroachment and Merrissa Caskin took a penalty shot, but the ball bounced off the cross bar.

Oak Hill goalies Kelsey Collins and Desiree John made a combined total of 22 saves. Oak Hill outshot Winslow, 23-14.

Madison 3, St. Dom’s 1

MADISON — Kristan Wood scored on a Melissa White feed and Sam McLaughlin followed up with goal on a penalty kick in the first half as Madison shook off St. Dom’s (1-1) with a 3-1 victory in a girls’ soccer game Friday.

In the second half, the Bulldogs’ Natalie Michaud made it 3-0 when she scored on a McLaughlin goal. But the Saints spoiled the shutout when Kayla McLellan scored on a penalty kick after hand-ball penalty was called.

The Bulldogs outshot the Saints, 11-10, but St. Dom’s had the advantage in corners, 8-3. St. Dom’s goalie Mary Caron made eight saves.

Maranacook 2, Leavitt 1

TURNER — Forward Sarah Clough piloted the eventual game-winning goal just before the half as Maranacook grabbed a 2-1 victory over Leavitt in KVAC girls’ soccer action Friday.

Clough’s goal came when she maneuvered behind the defense and made a breakaway for the net.

Mariah Treadwell scored the lone Hornet (1-1) goal in the losing effort.

Goalie Kelly Pomerleau made eight saves for Leavitt, while Liz D’Angelo turned away 12 shots to earn the

win in net for the Black Bears (1-1-1).

Edward Little 1, Oxford Hills 1

SOUTH PARIS — Sophomore striker Ellex Loper evened up the game 1-1 for Oxford Hills before the end of regulation and battled Edward Little to a double-overtime 1-1 tie in girls’ soccer action Friday.

Sophomore striker Kory Norcross put the Red Eddies (0-0-1) on the board first, and Loper evened the score on a left-footed chip.

Goalie Breanna Martin had two saves for the Vikings (0-1-1) , just as Taylor Landry had a pair for Edward Little.

Monmouth 9, Boothbay 3

BOOTHBAY — Monmouth scored six consecutive goals in the first half after trailing 2-0 to roar back for a 9-3 triumph over Boothbay in an MVC girls’ soccer game.

Seahawks (0-3) on the board early with a pair of unassisted goals. Monmouth (3-0) answered with a barage of goals, including three from sophomore Kylie Kemp. Colby Wilson, Ashley Coloumbe, and Danielle Bumann rounded out the first-half scoring for the Mustangs.

Chelsey Arsenault found the back of the net with the first two goals in the second half on assists from Molly Mencie and Bumann. Avery Laderer pushed across Boothbay’s last goal, while Bumann topped of the scoring with her second goal of the game to go along with her two assists.

Natalie Young stopped four shots in net for Monmouth for the win.

Field hockey

Yarmouth 3, Poland 0

POLAND — Emma Peterson scored a pair of goals and Poland didn’t get a shot on net as Yarmouth walked off with a 3-0 victory in a field hockey game Friday.

In the first half Peterson scored with 18:20 remaining in the game. Maddie Loomis made it a 2-0 game when she scored, and Peterson followed with her second goal in the second half.

Yarmouth goalie Nikki Mickey never faced a shot from the Knights (0-3) who had 25 shots on net. Poland goalie Melora Lavoie was under seige, making 20 saves.

Winthrop 2, Telstar 1

BETHEL — Sophomore Emma Spahr knocked in the go-ahead goal with 4:42 left in the second half to lift Winthrop to a 2-1 victory over Telstar in a MVC field hockey clash.

Winthrop (2-0) took the early lead just 55 seconds into the game when sophomore forward Rachel Ingram scored on an assist from Lauren Kaiser. Kallie Brown answered for the Rebels (0-2) with an unassisted goal midway through the first half.

Alyssa Arsenault earned the victory in net. The sophomore had six saves for the Ramblers. Hali Barter stopped nine shots in loss.

Spruce Mountain 2, Lisbon 1 OT

LISBON — Senior Kathryn Ventrella scored the winning goal in overtime to propel Spruce Mountain to a 2-1 victory over Lisbon in an MVC field hockey game.

After playing a scoreless first half, the Phoenix struck first when Erin Gats pushed across a goal assisted by Randi Duguay less than three minutes into the half.

Lisbon’s (2-1) Lindsey Whitney tied the score about seven minutes later on an unassisted goal.

Both defenses kept each other in check for the rest of the half, forcing overtime. Gats assisted Ventrella on the game winner.

Ashlee Quirrion stopped 13 shots for Spruce Mountain, while Lisbon keeper Devon Brewer turned away 12 shots in the loss.

Mountain Valley 6, St. Dom’s 0

AUBURN — Six different scorers found the back of the net out shooting St. Dom’s 45-3 as Mountain Valley blanked the Saints 6-0.

Junior Peyton Provencher fired in the first goal on an assist from Ayla Allen. Becca Maifeld and Whitney Ruff each scored on assists from both Provencher and Allen giving the Falcons (2-1) a 3-0 halftime lead.

Sam Glover assisted Nicole Burgess with the first goal of the second half before scoring an unassisted goal of her own. Allen rounded out the scoring. Falcon’s keeper Emily Gallant earned the victory in net while Saints’ (0-2) Jenna Fongemie turned away 42 shots in the loss.
