100 years ago, 1911

Both sides failed to score when Lewiston and Edward Little High school independent teams met Saturday afternoon in the first game of football between these institutions for years. The game was played on the A. A. A. Park before a crowd of three hundred people. While an interesting game, it lacked the cheering and excitement which was characteristic of the old football games when “Bill” Carrigan and others fought over the pigskin.

50 years ago, 1961

A new trailer park, called the Ja-Lynne Mobile Home Court, located near Lake Auburn and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Castner of Auburn, celebrated its official opening Saturday. The newly developed park features city water and sewerage available to each trailer and can now accommodate 25 trailers with each tenant having a plot of land 40 feet deep with 75 feet of frontage.

25 years ago, 1986

A Westbrook company is considering purchasing Fordland Lincoln Mercury, an Auburn automobile dealership that has been owned by the same family for 64 years.

Fordland was opened by William H. Cummings Sr. in 1922, said William Harkins, executive vice president of the Lewiston-Auburn Chamber of Commerce. It had operated under the name of Auburn Motor Sales Inc. for many years, he said.

The dealership employs between 60 and 70 people, Harkins said.
