FARMINGTON — Police say a retired couple reported Tuesday afternoon that they were robbed at gunpoint at their home in the Knowlton Corner area Monday night, Farmington Police Chief Jack Peck said.
The couple opened their door on Halloween night to find three males with handguns who threatened to kill them if they reported the incident to police, he said. Two males escorted the husband to a local ATM where he withdrew more than $1,000 while the third male held his wife at gunpoint.
The men also stole two handguns, a .25-caliber and a .22-caliber, from the couple’s home. Police found the guns in an abandoned car in a field at Knowlton Corner and Seamon roads, Peck said.
Most of the money was recovered from a High Street apartment in Farmington on Tuesday afternoon after the property owner provided permission for a search. Farmington Police Sgt. Michael Adcock was attempting to locate more cash Tuesday afternoon with help from officers from the Farmington police and the Franklin County Sheriff Department.
