LEWISTON — Bates President Nancy J. Cable has announced that the Bates Board of Trustees recently elected three new members:

• Dr. Dervilla M. McCann of Winthrop is a 1977 graduate of Bates. McCann is a cardiologist and partner with Androscoggin Cardiology Associates and Maine Research Associates in Auburn. She is also director of the cardiology division of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and a member of the cardiology staff of Central Maine Medical Center.

• Barbara M. Raths of Portland, a 1996 graduate of Bates, is deputy treasurer of Maine. Raths also represents the state treasurer on authority and retirement system boards. She received the 2007 Maine State Manager of the Year Award for outstanding leadership in public finance.

• John T. Rossello Jr. of Holliston, Mass., is a former partner with Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP, a global corporation that is the world’s second-largest professional services firm. Following a 29-year career with Pricewaterhouse Coopers during which he rose to become one of the firm’s partners, Rossello retired in 2007. He is currently a director of Prospector Funds Inc., a mutual fund family, where he is chairman of the audit committee and a member of the nominating committee.

“We are very pleased to have these three outstanding individuals on our board as we enter a new academic year at Bates and we are eager to have them involved in the leadership of the institution,” Cable said. “Each new trustee brings to the work of the board a variety of personal and professional strengths, along with deep interest in and enthusiasm for the kind of leading liberal arts and sciences education that Bates provides.”
