Archbishop Lazar Puhalo, a hierarch of the Orthodox Church in America, blessed Kassaye Andoniades on Tuesday during a visit to Lewiston to meet with students at Lewiston-Auburn College. Puhalo’s discussion ranged from ancient philosophy to modern ecological challenges and the ubiquity of the cellphone. Puhalo is the author of 48 books, several of which describe the intersection of science and religion. During Tuesday’s discussion, he counseled moderation in all things, including religion. He also held out hope for the future. “The younger generation, I think, is really better than my generation,” Puhalo told the students who met at Lisbon Street’s Three One Cafe. “They don’t tolerate the kind of blind hatred and prejudice that existed before.”
