EAST DIXFIELD — Although the music has ended for the season, the Countryfolk Music Theatre on U.S. Route 2 has volunteers who have been working on the new Countryfolk Music and Minerals Museum project during the past few weeks.

Larry Bisbee, operator of the venue that showcases Maine musicians and awards youth music scholarships annually, said, “We have been working six to 10 hours a day for several weeks since we closed for the season on Labor Day weekend.”

Nal Lacroix of Lewiston, Lloyd Latham of Jay and Aubrey Farrington of West Paris have volunteered several days to the project, Bisbee said. He said the roof is boarded and sheet metal will put on, thanks to the donation by a local resident.

Lonnie Blood of New Vineyard is working on the fireplace in the building and inside work is under way, Bisbee said. Several thousand feet of lumber and log siding have been donated.

Donations continue to come in for the Countryfolk Museum that will feature musician and songwriters photos, music, video and static displays as well as offering workshop space for artisans. The central theme will be old Maine, with a sportsman’s lodge atmosphere. A recent donation of moose antlers from Ben Stimans of Wilton will welcome folks in the main lobby.

Large windows with southern exposure will supplement the heating of the 30 by 60 project. Bisbee said project completion is set for the summer of 2012.
