100 years ago, 1911

The Art and Literature Club enjoyed a banquet at the DeWitt House Monday evening, eighteen members and one guest sitting down to the tables. The evening was spent in storytelling, guessing contests, and Mrs. F. E. Ludden gave a piano solo, “Venetian Boat Song,” while Mrs. H. P. Woodin read a selection.

50 years ago, 1961

Armand Bonneau & Brothers of Lewiston has been awarded a contract for the construction of a new post office building in South Lewiston, the U.S. Post Office Department announced yesterday in Washington.

The postal building will be constructed in the proposed shopping center area located at the site of Bonneau Brothers supermarket at 1035 Lisbon St.

Plans are to begin construction in about two weeks, Armand Bonneau’s Town & Country Shoppers Center, will get underway in the spring, it was reported.

25 years ago, 1986

A Lewiston contractor has proposed constructing a 40,000-square-foot supermarket at 1035 Lisbon St., now the site of a Laverdiere’s Super Drug Store, and converting the former Bonneau Bros. store into a retail center.

Donald R. LaRochelle submitted a letter of intent dated Nov. 18 to present plans to the Lewiston Planning Board on Dec. 9. The letter was written on behalf of Dolard Gendron, proprietor of Gendron & Gendron, general contractors.
