Bridge results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Nov. 22 were as follows: first, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Nancy Lindgren and Fred Letourneau; third, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; first in B, Della Starbird and Anna Vitiello.

Games are played every Monday and Tuesday at 9 a.m. and every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 754-1431 for information about all duplicate bridge games in Maine.

Auburn Art Club

AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet on Monday, Dec. 5, under the direction of President Bonnie Ross. The group will gather at the Park Avenue Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Chairman of the entertainment committee is Lillian Coombs. She will be assisted by Jane Linnell, Donna Manson and Jane Norris.

The program for the afternoon will consist of holiday music by Mitchell Clyde Thomas. He will play and sing a variety of traditional songs as well as some of his own compositions. One of his pieces will be “Light a Candle for Peace,” which he wrote in 1982 for a Christmas Eve service in his home church.

Thomas is a well-known member of the community and plays an active role in many organizations including the Community Little Theatre and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southern Maine. He is also the choir director and organist in two different churches in Lewiston and Auburn as well as the music director for the New England Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

All members are encouraged to attend.

Senior citizens

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens monthly membership meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, in the Seniors’ Room at the Multi-Purpose Center. Election of officers for 2012 will be held. Sandy Nisbet will entertain following the business meeting. Refreshments will be served.

The annual Christmas party will be held at the Ramada on Friday, Dec. 9. Doors open at 11:30, lunch will be served at noon. Tickets must be purchased by Dec. 1 for $12 each for a meal of chicken cordon bleu or haddock.

There are a limited number of seats left for “The Magic of Christmas” show at Merrill Auditorium on Sunday, Dec. 11. Call the office at 784-2926, ext. 207, for more information.

Gadget Guy

AUBURN(with mug LCOstharlerP112211) — Try out some of the hottest gadgets on the market and get advice from Gadget Guy Scott Tharler, an expert in electronic devices, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

The program is free and several lucky people will walk away with a head start on their Christmas shopping list as several door prizes will be drawn.

Tharler is the author of four books, mobile and wireless tips of the day for Sony and PC World, and freelance articles for such sites such as Travel and Leisure, ForbesTraveler and MSNBC. His daily gadget column on Discovery News features lots of cool, new devices. He also writes a gadget advice column as “The Gadget Concierge” in Boston’s MetroWest Daily News and he is about to launch a travel gadget column for Fodors.com.

C.A.L.M. giveaway

TURNER — C.A.L.M. (Caring and Loving Ministry) will have their next giveaway from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Dec. 6 and 13.

It is like a flea market but everything is free. Donated items that will be given away include coats, mittens, hats, men’s clothes, women’s clothes, baby items, blankets and whatnots.

Make fleece hats

AUBURN — A “Make Your Own Fleece Hat” workshop will take place at noon Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

Participants will create a homemade Christmas gift for a young child age 4 to 10. All materials for the project will be provided for free by the library. Space is limited so call 333-6640, ext. 4, to register.

Holiday bazaar

AUBURN — There will be a Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Odd Fellows and Rebekahs’ Home of Maine on 85 Caron Lane off of Minot Avenue.
