DEAR SUN SPOTS: The University of Southern Maine Senior College at Lewiston-Auburn College is looking for instructors for our classes. Our instructors volunteer their time and expertise. We meet Monday through Friday from September to November and March to May from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m.

Here is a sample of some of the courses we’ve enjoyed: Producing A Play, Religions of the World, Advanced Spanish, Conversational French, National Parks, Landscaping, Horticulture, The Holocaust, The Shakers of Maine, Opera, Bible Stories, Spy Films, Studies of the Brain, The Civil War, World War II, English Literature, U.S. National Parks, Writing Stories, Art, Musical Theater, American Authors, etc. Thank you. — Florence Roberts, USM L-A Senior College Curriculum Committee, [email protected]
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the Nov. 26 inquiry for an evening CNA class, you listed Buckfield as having a class. It is actually Oxford Hills/Buckfield adult education located in South Paris at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. The class is run through adult education and Oxford Hills Technical School.
We run two classes a year. One starts in September and one in January; they run for 14 weeks. Our schedule is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. for the classes, and clinical times are usually Wednesday morning and Thursday evening. Our class is 200 hours with 120 of that being in the classroom and 80 in clinical practice.
Anyone who would like more information can call me at the number below. For 14 weeks a person would need to be able to have a little flexibility, mostly because of the clinical time. Some people have actually opted to work it out with their employers to take it as vacation time to get through the class.
Hopefully this information helps. Going to the Website is always a good option to at least find out who offers a class and then call for the details. We are also on Facebook. — Donna Kusheba, program assistant, [email protected], 743-8842, ext. 9525
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read the Nov. 26 column and was surprised Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions was included. It is true that in the past we have offered CNA courses, and we currently offer other evening courses, including nursing and general education.
The college’s mission is to meet the community’s educational needs and to offer the courses that accomplish that the best. Should there be sufficient interest in an evening CNA course, the college would certainly consider that possibility.
If anyone has further questions, please contact Susan Hiscock at 795-2840. Thank you. — Susan C. Baltrus, president, CMMC College of Nursing and Health Professions, [email protected]
