RUMFORD — Mountain Valley High School senior Heather Durfee and principal Matt Gilbert performed “If I Had a Million Dollars” by Barenaked Ladies at a recent open mic night at the school.
Durfee then paired up with Chelsea Gaudet on “Graduation” by Vitamin C. In keeping with the upcoming holidays, the ladies offered “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” by Robert May. Without accompaniment, Durfee also sang “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” by Tommie Connor.
Spanish teacher Heidi Broomhall and part-time RSU 10 athletic trainer Andy Broomhall sang renditions of Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee” and The Eagles’ “Hotel California.”
English teacher Natalie Simmons performed “D.I.V.O.R.C.E” by Tammy Wynette and “Never Leave Harlan Alive” by Daryl Scott.
Other performers included sisters Syvella and Dellshawn Harris along with Daija Coy who sang “One Plus One” by Beyonce and “Emotions” by Destiny’s Child.
Senior Alex Pease performed “Leave the Pieces” by the Wreckers and “If You Only Knew” by Shinedown.
“This is a great opportunity for students and faculty to have fun together,” Gilbert said. “Open mic nights and Coffee Houses are all about providing our students with a stage to explore their interests and demonstrate their talents. I hope this will just be the first of perhaps monthly events.”
