TURNER — Jordan Hersom punched in 13 of his game-high 24 points and pulled down nine of his 18 rebounds — all in the second quarter — as undefeated Leavitt (4-0) took Lincoln Academy out for a walk with 68-52 in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday night.
The Eagles (1-3) took a 14-12 lead after the first quarter before Hersom went to work and sparked the Hornets’ 22-point outburst in the second quarter.
Besides Hersom, Leavitt’s Tyler Walton and Andrew Middleton scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Walton also had six assists. For Lincoln, Ryley Leavitt scored 15 points.
Lake Region 70, Gray-NG 47
GRAY — Alex Hartford and Mike Trigliane lit up the scoreboard, each scoring 23 points, as Lake Region knocked around Gray-New Gloucester with a 70-47 victory in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday night.
By the end of the first half, the Lakers build a 32-23 lead.
The Patriots’ Austin Keenan put up 18 points and sank four 3-pointers.
Maranacook 85, Oak Hill 45
READFIELD — Senior Gabe Giguere drained 17 points to lead Maranacook to a comfortable 85-45 victory over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Black Bears (2-2) tore up the court in a 30-8 first quarter, and led 55-17 at the half. Taylor Wilbur contributed 14 points on five field goals, including four from three-point range.
The second half was a bit more evenly matched as the Raiders were able to sink a respectable 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Brady Dion and Sam Morin recorded 12 points each for Oak Hill.
Wiscasset 61, Lisbon 53
WISCASSET — Senior guard Devin Grover buried 16 points as Wiscasset came away with a 61-53 victory over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Wolverines (1-2) clawed their way to an 18-9 lead in the first quarter, and played even over the remaining three frames. Jordan Jones furnished 15 points for Wiscasset.
Senior forward Tucker Bremmer gathered up a team-leading 13 points for the Greyhounds (0-3).
Lewiston 62, Cony 51
AUGUSTA — Senior guard Shawn Ricker tossed a team-leading 16 points to lead Lewiston to a 62-51 victory over Cony in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Blue Devils (4-0) jumped out to a 21-15 first quarter lead. Joe McKinnon contributed 14 points, and Corbin Hyde had 11 rebounds to pace the Blue Devils to their fourth win of the season.
Senior forward Walker Cooper recorded a game-high 18 points for the Rams (1-3). Benjamin Lucas pitched in with 16 points. The Blue Devils held the Rams to just a pair of offensive rebounds in the second half.
Richmond 50, Rangeley 32
RICHMOND — Richmond used a 20-5 run in the third quarter to pull away for a 50-32 victory over Rangeley in EWC boy’s basketball action Tuesday.
Ben Carver led the Bobcats (1-3) to their first win of 2011-12 with 12 points, while Nate Tribbett and Sean Bernier each added nine.
The Lakers (0-3) were paced by Eric White with a solid 13-point effort, while Alex Morton tallied 10 and AJ Elms added seven.
EL 48, Erskine 37
AUBURN — Omar Haji-Hersi sparked a 17-6 second-quarter run that propelled Edward Little to a 48-37 victory over Erskine in a KVAC basketball tilt Tuesday.
Haji-Hersi finished with 11 points for the Red Eddies (3-1), including six in that key second frame. Quinn Leary led the squad with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Eagles (2-2) were paced by Shawn Scates with 13 points, while Dave Duncan chipped in with nine.
Brunswick 46, Oxford Hills 41
PARIS — Mitchell Black ignited a 17-9 run in the fourth quarter that sent Brunswick to a 46-41 victory over Oxford Hills in KVAC boys’ action Tuesday.
Black scored 10 of his 11 overall points in that key final frame.
The Dragons (3-1) held a slim 20-18 lead at the half in this evenly-matched contest.
The Vikings (1-3) were paced by Deric Hanscom with 16 points, while Josh MacDonald added six points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Hockey
Leavitt 8, Westbrook 2
GORHAM — Eight different players netted a goal as Leavitt skated to an 8-2 victory over Westbrook in boys’ ice hockey action Tuesday evening.
Jacob Gladu and Ian Durgin had a pair of assists to go along with a goal each for the Hornets (3-1).
Leavitt paced its scoring evenly across three periods, netting three goals in each of the first and third periods, and two in the middle frame.
The Blazers were able to muster a pair of goals sandwiched in between Leavitt tallies in the final period to avoid the shutout.
