AUBURN — A Portland man accused of mugging a woman in Lewiston in early November, assaulting an officer later in the month, and attempting to escape from the county jail this week, was indicted Wednesday by the Androscoggin County grand jury.
Kyle Corey, 43, of 51 State St., Portland, was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, assault on an officer, reckless conduct and receiving stolen property.
Those charges stem from the incident Nov. 8 when Corey was shot by police after he knocked down an officer with the car he was driving following a car chase, police said.
While he was being held on those charges, police arrested Corey at the jail and charged him with a mugging just days earlier. In that incident, Nov. 5, police said Corey pushed and threw a woman to the ground as she was walking into Shaw’s supermarket on East Avenue, then grabbed her purse.
In the midst of those legal woes, Corey was moved to another jail Tuesday after he was implicated in a planned break from the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn. He was moved to the Somerset County Jail in Madison.
