RUMFORD — Mountain Valley limited Telstar to one field goal in the first quarter to open up an early lead and coasted to a 51-38 victory over the Rebels on Monday.
Only four players for each team scored.
Jacob Theriault led the Falcons (5-3) with 17 points, seven rebounds, five blocks, four steals and three assists. Andrew Child added 14 points and Ryan Nicols had 10.
Dom Haines led Telstar (3-5) with 12 points and Corey Howard chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Spruce Mountain 61, Hall-Dale 43
FARMINGDALE — Jake Bessey blew up for 29 points leading Spruce Mountain to a 61-43 victory over Hall-Dale in a boys MVC basketball matchup.
After a 16-13 first period, the Phoenix outscored the Bulldogs by seven in the second quarter for a 31-21 halftime lead. The Phoenix (8-1) were 16-26 from the free throw line including 11 from Bessey. The senior also sank three 3-point baskets.
Zach Bonnevie drilled a 3-pointer finishing with seven points. Nate Shink also had seven for Spruce Mountain.
Sam Shepherd led the Bulldogs (6-3) with 13 points.
Madison 64, Lisbon 44
MADISON — Madison outscored Lisbon 43-24 in the second half to pull away for a 64-44 win against Lisbon in boys MVC basketball.
Lisbon kept it close in the first half and only trailed 21-20 entering the third quarter. Austin Kane led all scorers with 23 points, including five 3-pointers, for Madison (4-4). Lamont Flanders followed with 11 points.
Lisbon’s Tucker Brannon netted 15 points, while Mason Haley chipped in with eight points.
Boothbay 45, St. Dom’s 43
BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Freshman forward John Hepburn tickled the twines with 21 points as Boothbay edged St. Dom’s 45-43 in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.
The Saints (3-5) gave battle in all four quarters, keeping the margin within six points throughout. They had a chance to tie or take the lead coming out of a time out with 11 seconds left, but they couldn’t convert.
Joe Bryant recorded a team-high 19 points for St. Dom’s.
Linc Simmons led Boothbay (8-1) with four field goals and a free throw for 10 points in the winning effort.
Boys’ ice hockey
St. Dom’s 2, Biddeford 1
BIDDEFORD — Senior captain Spencer Martin scored the first goal just 1:35 into the contest as St. Dom’s clipped Biddeford 2-1 in boys’ ice hockey action Monday evening.
The Saints (3-2) regained the lead in the second period behind a goal from Cody Rodrigue, and held the Tigers (3-3-1) scoreless over the final two frames.
Stephen Comar netted the lone Biddeford goal at the 6:28 mark of the first period on a power play in the losing effort.
Girls’ basketball
Mt. Abram 51,
Winthrop 22
WINTHROP — Mt. Abram raced out to an 18-0 advantage after the first period and never looked back en route to a 51-22 victory over Winthrop in girls MVC basketball action.
Miranda Smith and Tori Beane led the scoring for the visiting Roadrunners (5-4) tallying 18 and 15 points respectively.
Jill Howard chipped in with six in the win.
Winthrop was led by Jess Scott’s 11 points. The junior also hit a pair of 3-point baskets. She was followed by Cat Ouellette’s five points and Liz Glover’s four points. Shauna Carlson rounded out the Rambler (0-8) scoring with a bucket.
North Yarmouth 57, Buckfield 30
BUCKFIELD — Morgan Scully erupted for 21 points, including five 3-point baskets in the third quarter, to lead North Yarmouth Academy to a 57-30 victory over Buckfield in girls high school basketball action.
NYA (4-4) took a 21-12 halftime lead and turned it into a 47-21 advantage through three periods.
Scully finished with a game-high 27 points, including seven 3-pointers. Chloe Leishman chipped in with 12 points including a pair from behind the arc.
Caitlyn Henderson scored a season high 11 points and Danielle Patrie chipped in with eight for Buckfield (2-8).
