WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) — Divers are searching a half-mile stretch of an icy river in Maine as they look for a toddler who’s been missing for more than three weeks.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland said Wednesday that divers are searching the Kennebec River in Waterville for 20-month-old Ayla Reynolds. The girl was reported missing from her father’s Waterville home on Dec. 17, and her disappearance has been declared a crime.

The area where divers are searching is between a dam at the Hathaway Creative Center and the Carter Memorial Bridge downstream. The river is filled with ice chunks. An airboat is in the river as well.

Part of the nearby Messalonskee Stream was drained nearly dry for searchers on Dec. 21. McCausland says other bodies of water might be searched in coming days.
