100 years ago, 1912
Members of the Montagnard snow shoe club of Lewiston plan to be up-to-date another season and they are already discussing the question of uniforms. A pleasant outing was held at the Champlain club’s cottage at Lake Sabattus, the members leaving Lewiston on the 10 o’clock car and returning at 8 p.m. A fine dinner was served at two o’clock, the chief dish being rabbit.

50 years ago, 1962
The Lewiston Police Department was kept on its toes during the first month of the new year, investigating 91 accidents, recovering $1,378.63 worth of stolen property and making a total of 184 arrests, according to the January police activities report. Of the 184 persons arrested, 147 were found guilty as charged, five cases were dismissed, five case are still pending and 27 persons were released.

25 years ago, 1987
One of the developers of a proposed business park an Foss Road says he wants to avoid using the word “industrial” when talking about the project. “We’re trying to get away from the word ‘industrial.’ (That‘s not the kind of connotation we want to convey) We’re looking for clean businesses,” Ronald Barriault said of the proposal to subdivide 51 acres of industrial-zone land into 13 lots. The Barriaults intend to build a $1.8-million warehouse and office complex that will be leased back to their family business, Central Distributors Inc., on one seven-acre lot.
