TURNER — Craig Donald Quimby, 63, a lifelong resident of Turner, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, Thursday, Feb. 9, at his home in Turner.

Craig was born March 4, 1948, in Lewiston, the son of Donald and Irene (Bryant) Quimby. He attended school at Leavitt Institute in Turner. Craig proudly joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, having received the Bronze and Silver Star Medals, and was a dedicated member of the Turner American Legion Post 111.

On Sept. 21, 1968, in North Turner, he married his wife of 43 years, Sharon Mahaney. Sharing many family values with his parents, he became a natural outdoorsman and an avid lifelong sportsman, enjoying many successful deer hunts.

Craig’s firewood kept many local families warm for more than four decades. “Summer Sundays” were Craig’s special treat, touring the coast of Maine at Stover’s Point and the meadows overlooking Cundy’s Harbor with Sharon and Babe in tow. He would proclaim “I just love it here” to family and friends that were somewhere in the background.

Upon word of Craig’s illness, their large plot of land and circular driveway soon became tangled with traffic because of the overwhelming amount of support from friends and the community surrounding Craig and Sharon, Post 111 included. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Quimby of Turner; his son, Frederick Quimby and his wife, Edith, of Lewiston; two granddaughters, Whitney and Cassandra; his three brothers, Lester “Butch” Quimby and his companion, Glenda Clark, Barry Quimby and his wife, Pauline and Eric Quimby and companion, Mary Rose, all of North Turner; his sisters, Donna Dagneau of Kissimmee, Fla., Ilene Swett and her husband, Linwood, of North Turner and Vickie Bourick and her husband, Toby, of Portland; his special mother-in-law, Shirley Mahaney of North Turner; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kathy and James Hanson and their children of Turner; his beloved animals, Babe, Midnight, Goldie and Fluffy; and all his very special friends.

The family would like to express a wonderful thank-you to all the doctors, nurses, and hospice care workers, especially his nurse Jessica.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Janet Hutchins; his nephew, Lester “Boofy” Quimby Jr.; and his father-in-law, Henry Mahaney.
